Biography
Award-winning director and cinematographer, Christopher Charles, has worked for twenty-two years in the commercial, documentary, and music video industry. His career began in front of the camera with notable commercial directors, Joe Pytka and Rick Levin, but Charles discovered his passion and vision was best served behind the camera. Mr. Charles clients’ have included, Infiniti, Nike, Toyota and Carls Jr.
Working his way up the ranks Mr. Charles has established himself as a world-class artist with an extensive command of camera and lighting techniques, narrative development, and editing strategies. He has worked alongside famed photographers, Matthew Rolston and Herb Ritts, where he acquired a more sophisticated approach for lighting people, specifically women, on renowned music videos, and commercials with A-list artists and actors such as Beyoncé, Halle Berry and Charlize Theron.
From an early age, Christopher has carefully observed our emotional nature as people. He recognizes the extraordinary impact of emotional content in movies and commercial videos. As a director and storyteller, his greatest asset is his unceasing desire and ability to find human moments that immediately spark an emotional connection within his audience.
Charles takes a unique perspective to his art and life. As a Los Angeles trained firefighter and experienced licensed pilot, he has an extraordinary awareness of details. Subtleties that are often missed by people in our daily lives are second nature to him, by way of training and due to his youthful energy towards discovery and adventure. He brings those qualities to his craft as a director and DP. As he likes to say, “It’s the one world we can make perfect, Film”.
